Preventing Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders Curricula

NCTI's Preventing Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders Workshop addresses the staff training standard adopted by the Department of Justice (DOJ), and provides agencies with prevention and identification strategies to reduce incidences of staff/offender sexual misconduct. These mandates include the training of all staff on issues such as: failure to report, blurring of professional boundaries, professionalism, agency policy issues, zero tolerance, warning signs, and sharing personal information.

Each of NCTI's 8-hour curricula, accredited by APPA, provides a broad review of the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and is intended to increase participants' knowledge of the components of sexual abuse between staff and offenders. Participants will gain knowledge on how to effectively and properly respond to allegations of sexual abuses that may occur inside your agency or facility.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will have the ability to:

1. Define staff against offender sexual misconduct;
2. Apply the Prison Rape Elimination Act Standards and Requirements;
3. Have an understanding of civil and criminal law issues relating to PREA;
4. Construct prevention and identification strategies of sexual misconduct;
5. Recognize a sexualized work environment;
6. Identify and avoid inappropriate use of power and consent of staff against offenders;
7. Identify staff against offender grooming techniques and offender agaist staff grooming techniques.
