NCTI's Preventing Staff Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders (PSSMAO) Facilitator Certification Training addresses the staff training recommendations of the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission (NPREC), and provides agencies with prevention and identification strategies to reduce incidences of staff/offender sexual misconduct. The current recommendations of the NPREC require criminal justice agencies to provide extensive training of new employees, and yearly training for all staff of adult and juvenile probation, parole and community corrections agencies, to include, staff and vendors of prisons, jails, and residential facilities.
This 21-hour Facilitator Certification Training, accredited by APPA, is a fast-paced, interactive course that instructs criminal justice professionals to effectively facilitate NCTI?s Preventing Staff Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders Workshop. The training uses reality-based scenarios, activities, role plays, and group interactions to provide the necessary tools for staff to effectively recognize and reduce, with the goal of eliminating, staff and offender victimization. Additionally, the Facilitator Certification Training addresses the importance of individual learning styles and behavior. Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate and practice their newly acquired facilitation skills using the curriculum from NCTI?s Preventing Staff Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders Workshop.
NCTI's Training Addresses:
1. Group process facilitation techniques
2. Motivational Interviewing Techniques utilizing open ended questions.
3. Understanding and apprection of participant learning styles.
4. Understanding and appreciation of facilitator communication and delivery patterns.
At the conclusion of the Certification Training, certified facilitators will have the ability to procure and deliver the curriculum and provide a 4-hour workshop covering NCTI's Preventing Staff Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders.
Participants who attend NCTI's PSSMAO Facilitator Certification Training will have the ability to:
1. Define staff against offender sexual misconduct;
2. Apply the Prison Rape Elimination Act Standards and Requirements;
3. Have an understanding of civil and criminal law issues relating to PREA;
4. Construct prevention and identification strategies of staff against offender sexual misconduct;
5. Recognize a sexualized work environment;
6. Identify staff against client grooming techniques and client against staff grooming techniques;
7. Identify and avoid inappropriate use of power and consent of staff against offenders;
Practice sessions will allow participants to become familiar with the NCTI Sexual Misconduct curriculum.
This interactive workshop is available to all staff working in community corrections and correctional institutions. The Facilitator Certification Training content addresses facilitation skills building, using learning styles to one's advantage in the training room, review, and practice of the 4-hour workshop curriculum. After completing the Facilitator Certification Training, certified facilitators will be authorized to procure and deliver NCTI?s Preventing Staff Sexual Misconduct Against Offenders Workshop.
